Joseph Pennell’s etchings and Paintings
One hundred years ago today … Joseph Pennell was celebrated by NYC’s art critics.
Esther A. Coster, writing for the Eagle about the increasing popularity and visibility of etching as a form, called Pennell “one of the masters” of this work (“American Artists Lead in International Exhibitions Etchings and Woodblocks,” Brooklyn Daily Eagle, 23 April, 1922, p. 41).
In the Herald, Henry McBride devoted a full column to Pennell.
