Padraic Colum’s Anthology of Irish Verse
One hundred years ago today … The Anthology of Irish Verse, edited by Irishman-transplanted-to-New-York Padraic Colum, was praised in the Brooklyn Daily Eagle. Critic John Van Alstyne Weaver’s column included an example from the collection.
Other NYC papers also took note. Reviewing for the Times, Herbert Gorman wrote, “Here, for the first time, is given an adequate panorama of the Irish people” (“Ireland’s History and Moods in Verse” New York Times, 2 April, 1922, p. 73).
