YOM KIPPUR and Jewish refugees
One hundred years ago today … It was Yom Kippur, the holiest day on the Jewish calendar. The Daily News printed pictures of a Jewish man and a kosher chicken vendor.
The Times reported on Yom Kippur services throughout the c ity, including those held for the “hundreds” of Jewish refugees detained at Ellis Island, and more on ships full of the same.
The Times also reported that Rabbi Samuel Schulman of Temple Emmanu-El spoke out against anti-semitism, singling out Henry Ford’s writings about Jewish conspiracies.
