T.F. Tsiang (蔣廷黻)

NY 1920s honors Asian American Pacific Islander Month

One hundred years ago today … T.F. Tsiang–the pen name of Tsiang Tingfu (蔣廷黻)–lived at 505 W. 124th Street, according to The Handbook of the Chinese Students in the U.S.A for 1922 (which you can read in its entirety here.)  The address was likely a Columbia University residence. Tsiang was working on his dissertation, “Labor and Empire: a Study of the Reaction of British labor, Mainly as Represented in Parliament, to British Imperialism Since 1880,” which he would publish in 1923 (and which you can read in its entirety here)

Tsiang at Oberlin College, approximately 1915-1920. Boxer Indemnity Scholars.

Tsiang was on the executive board for the eastern section of The Chinese Students Monthly, which we featured two years ago, a publication of the Chinese Students Alliance. He would go on to a distinguished career in government and diplomacy.
