“With Our Girls” cartoons by Wilfred Russell


One hundred years ago today… Wilfred Russell, New York Age staff artist, published this comic strip about contemporary women’s fashions.

It was the latest installment of a series that Russell had been putting out since July 1921 to accompany the Age’s “With Our Girls” section, which itself had been running since the beginning of the year.

“Russell,” as he signed his works, is a bit of a mysterious figure. NY1920s has featured his political cartoons in posts from January 3, 1920 and (more prominently) January 29, 1921, and we noted that he exhibited works in the 1921 Black Arts Exhibit at the 135th St. Library
