Ringling Brothers Circus Parade, 5th Avenue

One hundred years ago today … The circus was in town, parading down Fifth Avenue. The Daily News published a photo spread that included children sitting on the New York Public Library’s exterior wall on 42nd Street just off Fifth Avenue.

The Ringling Brothers & Barnum and Bailey Circus had been playing Madison Square Garden, and was preparing to move on to its Brooklyn location 5th Avenue and 3rd Street.

The parade was to raise charitable funds. The Ringling Brothers performares were engaged in numerous charitable activities that week.
