One hundred years ago today … Prohibition went into full and final effect across the U.S.
The Evening World ran its weekly cartoon feature, “Can you Beat It?” by Maurice Ketten, joking that Prohibition would finally get the human race back on the wagon.

Maurice Ketten was the adopted name of Prosper Fiorino, an Italian-born, École-des-Beaux-Arts-in-Paris-educated artist who made a career as a cartoonist in NYC papers.
